Default Installing question

I already have Factions, but it's uninstalled. I going to get the bundle thing that comes with all 3 games eye of the north.

My question is, if I install Guild Wars with my factions disc, will it save me any time in the future? For some reason I'm thinking you just have to install Guild Wars, then download the stuff needed for your game. Am I right at all?

You only need to enter the CD Key of the bundle set you are getting and let the rest download no need to install Factions. It would of been better had you posted this in the Tech forum.

Your Factions disk will have the latest version of the client at the time the disk was pressed. You would then need to download all the updates since that point.

The bundle disk will have the latest version of the client at the time this was pressed, so if it was produced more recently than your Factions disk you'll have less updates to download

In normal play once you've installed the client, and the client has updated itself to a minimum level, you'll download additional content for the area each time you enter an new area or outpost until the client has all available content. This can take up some time to start with as you'll be held on loading screens whilst files are fetched.

You can, once you've initially installed the client, run a slightly modified shortcut icon (adding -image onto the icon's Target address) which will force the client to download all available content. This can take a while, but it's a one shot deal (at least until the next update) and will speed up moving from location to location

Was Factions installed before? Did you setup an account? If you did, your old account will still be there, if you wish to use it.

Yes and no. Can I assume that you have the Factions disc now and are getting the bundle for Christmas (or Birthday) in the near future?
If that is so, and you want to install Factions now to get a head start, the best thing to do, after you setup an account, is to run the game using the -image command line switch. There is more detail on the -image command other places in this forum, but here's the basics:

Locate you GW shortcut on the desktop. If you don't have a GW shortcut, use My Computer, or Windows explorer (or w/e) to navigate to gw.exe (usually in C:\program files\guild wars), right click on gw.exe and select "Send To" and then "Desktop (Create shortcut)"

Right click on the shortcut and select "properties". In the "Target" box you should have a line that looks like:

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\gw.exe" (your path may vary)

Click on the end of that line (to edit it) and add -image to the end so that it looks like:

"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\gw.exe" -image Note that -image is supposed to be outside the quotes (").

When you run this, it will download all the latest content. This is a BIG download, so it's best to run it while you are at work/school/sleep.

When it's finished, edit the shortcut again to remove the -image. (The game won't run if you try to start it with that shortcut while the -image is still there)

Other than that, or until you get around to doing the -image, you can just play Factions normally and it will download what it needs as you go.
Installing GW from the bundle would give you the latest files and require the least amount of downloading.
If you install factions and do the -image thing, you will only need to add the CD key from the bundle to have access to everything. (No need to "install" the bundle>)
